Dr. Delores James is a professor, writer, motivational speaker, registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), health educator, and social entrepreneur. She’s also the heart and soul behind Keep It Tight Sisters—a food, health, and wellness brand empowering women to love their bodies, build healthy relationships with food, and achieve their wellness dreams.
Education and Expertise
With a B.S. in Medical Dietetics from The Ohio State University and both an M.S.H.S.E. and Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance from the University of Florida, Dr. James brings decades of knowledge and experience to her work. She’s a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and was honored as the first Fellow of the Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group. She is also a proud alumna of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Leaders Program (Cohort 2).
Her research areas include weight management, online health communities, digital health technologies, mHealth and telemedicine, AI pedagogy, and AI ethics. Dr. James has authored over 60 peer-reviewed journal manuscripts and multiple books.
Beyond academics, Dr. James provides professional training on women’s empowerment, Sister Circles, self-compassion, cultural competence and humility, and leveraging social media for social good.
A Leader in AI Health
Dr. James is the Director of AI Initiatives and Strategic Planning in the Department of Health Education and Behavior. She is the editor of the AI Faculty Handbook for Adding AI to Your Courses (2022). She has also developed several AI training courses for health professionals.
