From Pain Relief to Better Sex: Which Yoni Massage Technique Is Best for You?

Woman with open hands to perform a yoni massage technique

Are you curious about the yoni massage technique that is best for you? Surprisingly, many women have never done a yoni massage alone or with a partner. So why is that? Undoubtedly, we don’t have a problem getting a regular foot or full-body massage. However, yoni massages are noticeably missing from our self-care routine.

Now, let me tell you that I can hear you snickering and see you smirking and rolling your eyes. So before we go any further, let’s discuss the yoni. Yoni is an ancient Sanskrit word that means “womb,” “source,” and “female genitals.” In other words, it is the origin or source of everything.

I love the fact that yoni means much more than the pum pum, pussy, or whatever name you call your vagina. It elevates our most feminine part beyond being the “thing between our legs.”  Indeed, yoni reminds us of our bodies’ sacredness and the need to heal our bodies, mind, and spirit.

This article describes the many benefits of a yoni massage, the different techniques, and how to choose the best one for you.

What Is A Yoni Massage?

While the benefits of yoni oil and yoni massages are trending online, they are not new topics.  Women have been using and enjoying the benefits of yoni massages for centuries.  Indeed, in many cultures, older women taught younger women these techniques to prepare them for marriage.  Additionally, women probably whispered different massage techniques to each.  Thankfully, the topic is no longer taboo, secretive, or just for married women.

Today, women use yoni massages to:

  • Learn about their bodies.
  • Understand what feels good for them.
  • Balance emotions.
  • Improve self-image.
  • Increase intimacy with a partner.
  • Release stress and tension.
  • Reduce sexual inhibition and shyness.
  • Heal from emotional or sexual trauma.
  • Improve blood flow.
  • Achieve more intense orgasms.

A yoni massage is a stand-alone therapy and should not be rushed. It can be done alone or with a partner.  The ultimate goal is not sexual pleasure. However, it can also be an elaborate form of foreplay that produces a powerful, pleasurable release.

In some cases, women with sexual inhibitions, emotional blockage, and trauma use the services of a licensed sexual massage therapist or a professional practitioner. Many of these professionals specialize in tantric yoni massages. Notably, a sensual tantric massage focuses on balancing the chakras and awakening and releasing the feminine energy within the body.

Creating a Sacred Environment for Yoni Massage

I believe that a yoni massage is primarily a spiritual, healing practice.  Therefore, you must prepare your mind and body and have a specific space to do it.

Create a Space

First, minimize distractions and disconnect from the world.  For many of you, it means telling others at home not to disturb you, silencing your phone, and not responding to texts and calls.

Second, use a comfortable space.  The physical space for the massage can be a bed, a thick yoga mat, or the floor with a blanket or comforter.  You may also need a few cushions and pillows to get comfortable.

Third, create the ambiance by closing the curtains, turning off the lights, lighting a few candles, and running an aromatherapy diffuser (optional).

Open Your Heart and Mind

It’s important to prepare your mind and heart for a yoni massage.  Notably, this involves leaving behind shame, judgment, guilt, and other preconceived ideas about your body and sexuality.

Take a few minutes to breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth.  Try a  few rounds of box breathing to calm and energize you.  After a few rounds, return to breathing normally through your nose.

Prepare Your Body

Remove all clothing, lie down, and cover your body with a light sheet.   If you’re uncomfortable being naked, then wear a large t-shirt.

  1. Place a bottle of yoni massage oil with reach.
  2. Place a soft pillow under your head and another under your back.
  3. Gently open your legs and let them fall to the sides.   Or bend the knees and place the soles of your feet on the bed or mat.

Yoni Sensual Touch Warm-UP

Before using any of the yoni massage techniques, many practitioners recommend doing a  sensual touching warm-up.

  1. Add a few drops of yoni massage oil to the palm of your hands.
  2. Rub hands together to warm the oil.
  3. Rub 10-12 circles around your navel.
  4. Repeat the first two steps.
  5. Expand the circle and rub 10-12 times around your abdomen (belly).
  6. Repeat the first two steps.
  7. Slowly massage the right breast with both hands, working from the chest to the areola (the large dark circle around the nipple).
  8. Repeat on the left breast.
  9. Gently pull, tug, or pinch the nipples.
  10. Repeat the first two steps.
  11. Massage the upper legs and inner thighs.

There are many brands of yoni oils available online. Some are for general-purpose use, and others are for treating specific conditions. They all use organic ingredients and maintain a healthy vaginal PH. Here are some brands we like:

List of yoni massage techniques

Yoni Massage Technique 1: Cupping

  1. Perform the sensual touch warm-up.
  2. Curl your fingers into a cup-like shape and place it over your vagina.
  3. Move your hand in large clockwise circles 8-10 times.
  4. Reverse the direction and move the hand in large counter-clockwise circles.
  5. Use the heel of your hand to massage the mons pubis (large fleshy area).

Yoni Massage Technique 2: Circling

Circling massages focus primarily on the clitoris.  They also work well for massaging the nipples.

  1. Perform the sensual touch warm-up.
  2. Use the middle and index fingers to do light circles on the clitoris.  Do a few circles clockwise and then alternate and do a few counterclockwise.
  3. Experiment with small, tight circles and larger ones.
  4. Experiment with different levels of pressure.

Yoni Massage Technique 3: Rolling and Tugging

Rolling and tugging massages focus primarily on the clitoris.  They also work well for massaging the nipples.

  1. Perform the sensual touch warm-up.
  2. Lightly grasp the clitoral hood gently between the thumb and index finger.
  3. Slowly and gently rub the clitoris between your fingers. Snap and release it a few times.
  4. Gently tug the clitoris and release.
  5. Tug the right side of the labia majora (vaginal lips) and release it a few times. Repeat on the left side.

Yoni Massage Technique 4: Tapping

Tapping massages send small bursts of energy to the yoni.

  1. Perform the sensual touch warm-up.
  2. Use your index and middle fingers to tap the top and sides of the clitoris a few times.
  3. Experiment with light and heavier taps.

Yoni Massage Technique 5: Pushing and Pulling

Pushing and pulling massages focus primarily on the clitoris.

  1. Perform the sensual touch warm-up.
  2. Place the thumb on one side of the clitoris and the index finger on the other side.
  3. Gently push down the clitoral hood to reveal the tip of the clitoris.
  4. Gently pull up to cover it.
  5. Repeat several times using very light pressure.
  6. Start with a slow pace and increase the pace if necessary.

Yoni Massage Technique 6: Lip Synching

This massage technique is all about the outer labia (vaginal lips), one of the most overlooked areas of the vagina.  The outer lips of the vagina have a large number of nerve endings that need to be explored with both hands.

  1. Perform the sensual touch warm-up.
  2. Use several light strokes to massage the crease between the thighs and both sides of the labia major.
  3. Alternate between downward and upward strokes.
  4. Massage the outer parts of each lip.
  5. Massage the inner parts of each lip.
  6. Tug and pull gently on each lip a few times.
  7. End by cupping both lips for a few seconds.

Yoni Massage Technique 7: G-Spot Massage

Surprisingly, many women do not know they have a G-spot or believe that it is a mythical place.  Furthermore, those who know about the G-spot do not understand its purpose. So, let’s take a mini-course on the G-spot.

The Grafenberg spot or G-spot is located about an inch inside the upper wall of the vagina. This small, spongy bump is very sensitive.  Indeed, when stimulated correctly during a yoni massage or certain sexual positions, it swells and produces an intense release.  Notably, about 10% of women also ejaculate when their G-spots are stimulated.

There are two main ways to do a G-spot massage.

  1. Perform the sensual touch warm-up.
  2. Insert a finger (or two) into the vagina. Curl the finger and gently rub the area.
  3. Use a silicone-based sex toy with a curve or bulbous head.  Be sure to use an adequate amount of lubricant.

Regardless of your preferred massage technique, I encourage you to experiment with light and heavy touches and slower or faster movements.

10-Minute Yoni Massage Technique

  1. Add a few drops of yoni oil to the palm of your hands.
  2. Rub hands together to warm the oil.
  3. Rub 5-6 circles around your navel.
  4. Repeat the first two steps.
  5. Rub circles as you move down to the top of the pelvic bone.
  6. Add a few drops of oil to your three inner fingers.
  7. Massage several circles around the mons pubis, moving right to the left.
  8. Add a few drops of oil to your three inner fingers.
  9. Massage small circles below the mons pubis above the clitoral hood.
  10. Add a few firm strokes back and forth on either side of the clitoris.
  11. Add a few drops of oil to your three inner fingers.
  12. Use firm downward strokes outside the right labia majora down to the tailbone.
  13. Repeat on the outside of the left labia majora.
  14. Add a few drops to the forefinger and middle finger.
  15. Massage up and down the inner folds of the labia majora.
  16. Add a few drops of oil to the forefinger and middle finger.
  17. Use back-and-forth strokes to lightly massage both of the labia minora (inner lips).
  18. Lightly stroke the opening of the vagina.
  19. Rub hands together and cup the entire vagina for a few seconds.
  20. Enjoy!

Yoni Chakra Massage for Healing

A yoni massage is not just about setting aside to pleasure yourself.  Indeed, it has a healing element. Many yoni massage advocates believe it helps to release stored emotional and psychological trauma. Thus, I believe a yoni chakra massage is best done by a licensed chakra massage therapist.

According to Ayurvedic healing tradition, the body’s energy centers are contained within seven chakras stretching from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.  The chakras work with the body’s endocrine system to push energy or life (prana) through the body.  When the chakras are blocked, the energy needs to be restored and balanced.

  1. Crown chakra—located at the top of the head
  2. Third eye chakra—located between the eyebrows
  3. Throat chakra
  4. Heart chakra
  5. Solar plexus chakra—located in the navel area
  6. Sacral chakra—located in the genital area (ovaries)
  7. Root chakra—located at the base of the spine (gonads)

A yoni chakra massage focuses primarily on the solar plexus, sacral, and root chakras.  Some potential benefits include:

  • Release toxins
  • Restore energy balance
  • Reduce stress and anxiety levels
  • Improve a sense of well-being

It is not unusual for some people to cry or feel a lifting of emotional burdens during or after a chakra yoni massage.

Frequently Asked Questions about Yoni Massage Techniques

Is a yoni massage the same as masturbation?

No, it’s not. Indeed, the goal of masturbation is to get an orgasm. While yoni massage may lead to an orgasm, it is not the main focus. Instead, yoni massage is a therapeutic practice that focuses primarily on healing and self-discovery.

What if I don't have an orgasm with a yoni massage?

As mentioned previously, the goal of a yoni massage is not to get an orgasm. Some yoni massage techniques are more intense and often lead to an orgasm.

Which yoni massage technique is best?

There are several yoni massage techniques. Some techniques are best used alone and others with a partner. A licensed sex massage therapist may use other techniques to heal sexual trauma or sexual inhibition.

Now, It’s Your Turn

Well, I hope you feel more educated about the types of yoni massage techniques. An important aspect of a yoni massage is to take your time and stay in the moment. While you may experience an orgasm during a yoni massage, it is not the primary goal. Additionally, a yoni massage is not a “one-off.” Indeed, it should be a regular self-care practice to balance your feminine energy.
