Command the Morning: Prayer Points and Affirmations to Transform Your Day

6 am clock to command the morning

Command the morning and watch the rest of your day fall into place. I know that it’s a bold statement. So, what does it mean to command the morning? Many believe that the morning is the most sacred part of the day. Indeed, taking command of the morning is a spiritual principle that many religious people use to take charge of their day. Specifically, they believe God gives them the faith, strength, and authority to withstand any negative and evil thing that come against them.

This post outlines how to command your morning by taking control of your day as soon as you wake up.  It also provides prayer points and affirmations to transform your morning and your life. Don’t leave your day to chance. Use your God-given authority to command your morning.

Why Focus on Command the Morning?

In most societies, the morning is typically seen as the most important part of the day.  Indeed, many people attest to being the most productive during the first hours of their day.  More importantly, mornings are the best part of the day because they set the tone for the day and offer hope and renewal.

Of course, there are evening rituals to bring self-awareness to what you accomplished today, how you lived your truth, and the lessons you learned.  However, this post focuses on commanding the morning.

Morning Rituals to Command the Morning

It’s important to develop a ritual to command the morning.  Now, notice that I did not say routine but ritual.  So, what’s the difference between a routine and a ritual?  As mentioned in a previous post, a routine is something that you do out of habit, like brushing your teeth in the morning and at night.  On the other hand, a ritual is an intentional, purposeful practice aimed at achieving a goal.  Indeed, a ritual is not what you do so much as how and why you do it.

Here are some of my rituals that create the environment to command the morning.  Undeniably, they connect my body, mind, and soul and get me roaring for the day.  It’s important to figure out what works for you.

Wake Up Early

I set my alarm for 5:30 am during the week.  I know that many entrepreneurs and business leaders report waking up at 4:30 am.  However, running my little kingdom can wait until a little later in the morning.

When the alarm goes off, I get out of bed immediately.  I do not snooze the alarm.   Unfortunately, snoozing tells your body that you’re not ready to face the day.  Furthermore, it is bad for the body because you don’t have enough time for a full sleep cycle, leaving you feeling a bit groggy.

Upon getting out of bed, I drink a glass of water, make my bed, feed the cats, and make a cup of tea.

Minimize Distractions and Disconnect with The World

I value my time connecting with God.  Thus, I minimize distractions by not checking my texts, social media, emails, or the news until later.  Yes, there might be something inspirational in my social media feed.  However, I must wade through the negativity and toxicity to find them.  It can wait.

Read Something Inspirational

I feed my mind with something positive, affirming, and inspirational.  First, I read the Bible. Second, I read a short devotional plan or a chapter or two from a book.  Third, I take notes on my iPad as I read, especially for books I may not read again.

Write in Journal

Journaling is a must for me.  Since most of my day is spent typing on a computer, I write to reflect and connect with myself in my journal. Additionally, writing by hand stimulates my brain to slow down and unleash my creativity.

Now, you don’t want to miss this.  I write out my prayers in my journal.  Indeed, sometimes it is hard for me to pray out loud.  Thus, I write and pray to God to my heart’s content.

Pray

Daily prayer and meditation discipline the mind and connect you to God or your Higher Power.   Indeed, prayer is the communication channel that transports us to the presence of God, the Spirit, and the source of every good and perfect gift.

In the presence of God, we come in humility as children to a loving parent who wants the best for us.   We lay ourselves bare and confess our sins, weaknesses, and fears.   We also bring our enemies and challenges before the Throne of God.  It’s also a time to express our needs, wants, desires, and dreams.   Equally important, God’s presence encourages us to exhale, linger, be still, and listen.   And we leave strengthened, comforted, and at peace, knowing that everything will happen according to the Divine order.

How to Command the Morning

Prayer is the foundation on which to command the morning.  Prayers can be written, spoken silently, or spoken out loud.  Furthermore, there is an open invitation and a drawing to seek the presence and face of God.   Psalm 27:8 states, “My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming” (NLT).

So, what do we do once we accept the invitation? Well, we intentionally focus our prayers.

Prayer of Restoration

First, there is the prayer for restoration. This step in prayer includes confession, repentance, and forgiveness.  Notably, the prayer for restoration is the pillar of all Old and New Testament prayers.  Unfortunately, many of us skip over the prayer of restoration and go straight to asking God to give us stuff, relieve our suffering, and strike down our enemies.

Now, you don’t want to miss this.  Lamentation 3:22-23 states, “The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh and each morning.” Undeniably, this is a charge to command the morning.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Second, there is the prayer of thanksgiving. We often take many things in our lives for granted.  Or we only thank God for the good things that happen in our lives. However, it is important to give thanks even when we don’t feel like it and don’t get what we want. Indeed, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 encourages us to “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

Prayer of Authority

Third, there is the prayer of authority.  Many of us do not know our rights and position in Christ.  Furthermore, many who know about it do not daily walk in that authority.   Indeed, every believer is commanded to walk in the power and authority of God.  When you take the authority to command the morning, you choose to live under the influence of God’s grace and unlimited favor.

Command the Morning Prayer Points

Prayer points are prompts that focus the mind and heart on God.  They are usually based on specific Scriptures or Biblical principles.  Undeniably, commanding the morning prayer points help us to focus and direct our prayers to our heart’s desire or the areas we need a victory.  Now, I think we can all agree that we cannot manipulate God with our prayers.  Indeed, we must be clear about what we ask for and trust that God will answer in His own time and way.

Greet the Morning

  1. Thank God for the gift of a new day.  “This is the day the Lord has made.  We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NLT).
  2. Declare that TODAY is your day, and your time has come.  “The Lord told Joshua, ‘Today, I will begin to make you a great leader in the eyes of the Israelites.  They will know that I am with you, just as I was with Moses.’”  Joshua 3:7 (NLT).
  3. Acknowledge that your help and strength come from God and God alone.  “I lift up my eyes to the hills.  From where does my help come?  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 (ESV).
  4. Receive new grace and mercies each morning.  “The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.   Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh and each morning.” Lamentation 3:22-23 (NLT).

Ask for Strength and Guidance

  1. Be bold and confident. “ So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 (NLT).
  2. Open your heart, listen, and respond.  “My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” Psalm 27:8 (NLT)
  3. Trust God’s leading.  “Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.  Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”  Psalm 143:8 (NLT).
  4. Trust God’s word.  “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”  Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.  Psalm 119:105 (NLT).
  5. Ask for an obedient heart.  “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God.  May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.  Psalm 143:10 (NLT).
  6. Ask for strength throughout the day.  “Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.” 1 Chronicles 16:11 (NLT).

Express Thankfulness and Gratitude

  1. Acknowledge that God is more than enough and you are satisfied.  “Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.  Psalm 90:14 (NLV).
  2. Praise God that you have all that you need. “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.  Psalm 23:1 (NLT).

Release Your Worries and Fears

  1. Refuse to worry and give in to fear.   “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6,7 (NLT).
  2. Receive the power to overcome fear.  “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 1 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
  3. Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies.  He is coming to save you.” Isaiah 35:4 (NLT).
  4. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

Be Ready for Spiritual Warfare

  1. Let God fight your battles.  “The Lord will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven!” Deuteronomy 28:7 (NLT).
  2. Wake up with your armor on.  “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11 (NLT).
  3. Understand who the enemy is.  “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 (NLT).
  4. Put on every piece of armor.  “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” Ephesians 6:13 (NLT).
  5. Claim the victory.  “ . . . no weapon turned against you will succeed.  You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you.” Isaiah 54:17 (NLT).
  6. Don’t let your guard down. “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT).
